Courses and Workshops

I run the workshops in stone carving, clay modelling and drawing.  They are suitable for all comers, those just taking up sculpture or art to those wishing to improve their skills. So now is the time to think about booking a course. The emphasis is on enjoying yourselves and whether you have come along together, or are meeting each other for the first time being in a group learning a new skill is lots of fun. We usually have French and English students together, so you can improve your language skills at the same time!

The most usual quote from students finishing a course: ''I cannot remember when I have had such a good time''

Courses -  Stone and wood carving or modelling in clay. Drawing from life

All tools and equipment are provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own tools if you have them and an overall or apron, work gloves, eye and ear protection.  If you have your own preferences for certain materials, feel free to bring whatever you wish.

The workshop is large, with good light, and there is also a large courtyard, which makes it possible to work outside in fine weather.

The stone course introduces you to stone carving, please bring ideas/drawings/images along for subject matter and a piece of stone of your choice but literally any lump of local stone will do to start, or we can provide a piece of stone. You will be learning how to handle the tools and the stone.  Although the discipline cannot be mastered after just 3 days, you will be producing a piece of carved stone sculpture to be proud of and taking away the skill and momentum to continue exploring this exciting method of sculpting.

The clay course commences with getting to know the tools and material whilst starting on your piece, you will be taught how to make an armature to support the work if required. Please bring your own ideas or take inspiration from an existing works of art.  The final day is finishing off your piece, advice on final textures, drying for the kiln etc. Pieces to be fired can be picked up at a later date, a charge is payable on collection.

Refreshments are provided throughout the course.  Students  are welcome to contribute a savoury/sweet plate or wine to add to the meals if they wish.  Or there are several snack bars and restaurants in Rouillac if you prefer to explore the town.  Some accommodation is available, for which there is an additional charge for bed and breakfast with us.

The course is for 3 days from  09:30 - 12:30 and 14:00 - 17:00.

The price is 275 Euros, which includes refreshments.  One day taster sessions are possible at 100 Euros, including refreshments.

Payment would be required in advance to ensure your place.

There is a maximum of 6 people for each course, so book early to avoid disappointment.
